INDEPENDENCE BOWL LIVE STREAM <–Click here!

EA Sports' NCAA Football 08 will be released on July 17th for PS2, PS3, Xbox, and Xbox 360. For gamers who are already anxious to get their hands on this year's game, here is a sneak preview of some of the nation's top incoming freshman who you'll be able to use in this year's game.

I'm sure some of you can't wait to jump into Dynasty Mode with some of these 5 star recruits.

Notre Dame QB #7 (Jimmy Clausen) – Clausen is rated by many as the nation's #1 recruit. If he's able to quickly grasp of Charlie Weis' offense, he could be the Fighting Irish starter at QB when they open the season in South Bend against Georgia Tech.

Clausen's older brothers Rick and Casey both played QB at Tennessee, so the name may sound familiar to many college football fans. Jimmy is already one of the most highly touted QB recruits in Notre Dame history.

Clausen's presence on the Notre Dame roster this season is good news for NCAA Football 08 gamers who love the Fighting Irish. The loss of Brady Quinn put a huge hole in the Notre Dame roster at the QB position. Clausen's presence is also a bonus for gamers who want to use Notre Dame in the game's Dynasty Mode. You'll likely have Clausen for at least 2 seasons to help you lead the Irish to victory in your Dynasty.

It's very likely that Clausen will be the highest rated true freshman QB in NCAA 08, and he may wind up being the highest rated true freshman QB in the history of EA's NCAA Football series.

West Virginia HB #7 (Noel Devine) – Devine is a smallish (5-9 175) running back with freakish speed on the football field. Former NFL great Deion Sanders, who knows Devine well, has compared the West Virginia frosh to former Detroit Lions RB Barry Sanders, quite high praise from “Neon Deion”.

Devine has been a sort of high school football “legend” since his freshman season when his highlight tape was released online. You can find his highlight reels from high school all over the internet and on YouTube. Believe me, they are fun to watch. Devine makes everyone else look like they are running in slow motion.

Devine's addition to the West Virginia roster in NCAA Football 08 could make the Mountaineers the game's scariest offense. The ability to mix Devine in with returning West Virginia players like QB Pat White (QB #5) and HB Steve Slaton (HB #10) should give smart gamers the ability to threaten opposing defenses with a dominate running game with scary speed.

Devine will also likely have very high AGILITY and ACC(acceleration) ratings which could make him a dangerous kick returner as well.

Illinois WR # 9 (Arrelious “Rejus” Benn) – Benn, a speedy receiver from Washington, D.C., may have the biggest impact of any incoming freshman this upcoming season. He'll also make an impact in NCAA 08 as well.

Benn is one of the top incoming WR's this season in college football. He's enrolled early at Illinois and already made an impact in the Fighting Illini's spring football game by catching 5 passes for 145 yards, while also running the football 5 times for 42 yards, including a 30 yard touchdown run.

Benn gives Illinois sophomore QB Juice Williams a go-to wide receiver with big play ability. Williams was one of the top QB recruits in the country last season, but struggled at times throwing the football last season. The addition and early enrollment of Benn should help Juice's development under center for the Fighting Illini.

The addition of a player like Benn makes Illinois, a team rarely used by gamers last season, a team that more gamers take a look at this season, especially in Dynasty Mode.

USC HB #4 (Joe McKnight), USC HB #26 (Marc Tyler), USC LB #54 (Chris Galippo) – This 3-headed monster of freshman helped give USC the nation's top recruiting classes this season, and one of the most highly ranked recruiting classes in recent memory. All 3 players will likely make an instant impact for the Trojans this season.

McKnight is a gifted RB that many people are comparing to former USC running back Reggie Bush. McKnight is a big play back with breakaway speed and also has the ability to catch the ball like a WR.

Tyler is a bigger back than McKnight with a bit more of a physical running style, but he also, like McKnight, has excellent speed. Tyler is rated by many as the nation's #1 incoming freshman RB.

Galippo is considered by many to be the #1 incoming freshman on the defensive side of the ball. He's a big, fast linebacker known for making highlight reel quality hits.

This trio of incoming recruits will give NCAA 08 gamers 3 players they can use right away to win games against their buddies, online opponents, or the CPU. They also make the Trojans an attractive team to use in a Dynasty, because gamers will be able to use all 3 on the “digital” football field for several seasons.

North Carolina WR #8 (Greg Little) – Little is perhaps this season's most talented all-around athlete entering the NCAA ranks. He is 6-3 205 lbs and has the ability to play WR, RB, LB, and S.

Little originally was thought to be heading to Notre Dame, but decided to join new North Carolina coach Butch Davis in Chapel Hill. Davis has already made an instant impact at UNC with a stellar first recruiting class that includes several high profile players from across the country like DT Marvin Austin, OT Kevin Bryant (6-6 372 lbs!!!), 6-5 WR Dwight Jones, 6-3 240 lb RB Ryan Houston, and QB Mike Paulus, the brother of Duke basketball point guard Greg Paulus.

Little leads the class and has a chance to help the Tar Heels at several positions, although it appears that he will mostly likely line up at WR.

Little is an intriguing player for NCAA Football 08 gamers because he can be played at several positions, and possibly even play on both sides of the football.

There you have it, a little sneak peak at what you can look forward to this season in EA Sports NCAA Football 08 when it comes to the top incoming freshman in this year's game.

The NCAA postseason kicks off Dec. 19, with 33 games being played in a three week span. Seniors will get their last hurrah, and teams will attempt to end their season on the winning side, in the hopes of improving recruiting that follows afterwords.

The Sportmeisters will preview each of the 33 games that lie ahead, and provide our predictions as well. Let’s get to it!

Holiday Bowl, Dec. 30, 8:00 PM, San Diego, CA

No. 20 Arizona (8-4) vs. No. 22 Nebraska (9-4)

About Arizona : Arizona never found complete consistency, starting off 4-2 before winning three, then losing two, and winning two to finish 8-4.

The Wildcats are a middle of the pack team offensively, finishing in the top 50 in all major categories. Sophomore QB Nick Foles took over the starter role midway through the season, and hasn’t let it go. He has thrown for 2437 and 19 touchdowns. Sophomore WR Juron Criner is his top target, with 43 catches for 579 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sophomore RB Keola Antolin and Junior RB Nic Grigsby (who is expected to play despite missing the last two games) have combined for 1128 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Arizona finds more success stopping the run defensively, 22nd in NCAA FBS with 111.92 yards a game. They are 21st overall in defense, with opponents averaging 315.83 yards a game. Junior DL Ricky Elmore leads a defense that averages 2.83 sacks a game (13th in NCAA FBS). He has 10.5 himself, to go along with 43 tackles (11.5 for loss).

Sophomore DB Trevin Wade has 66 tackles and five interceptions, including one for a touchdown. Arizona isn’t a dominating team, but they know how to methodically beat their opponents.

About Nebraska : The Cornhuskers have been trying to get back to dominance since their run of championships in the 90s. They started off 2009 winning four of five, and if not for a last second touchdown, would have been 5-0. They fell flat, losing two in a row, before a five game winning streak earned them the Big 12 North Championship.

Another last-second score kept them from BCS lore, but they still earn a bowl shot and a chance at 10 wins.

Nebraska’s offense is horrific, which is shocking considering the Big 12 has been an offensive conference as of late. They finished 102nd out of 120 teams in total offense (317.15 yards per game). A big chunk of that was a lack of a passing game (175.92 yards per game) which was 101st in NCAA FBS.

The lone offensive bright spot was Junior RB Roy Helu Jr., who rushed for 1139 yards and ten touchdowns. Junior WR Niles Paul’s 673 receiving yards were twice as much as anyone else on Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers earned their victories thanks to a top ten defense. Second overall in points given up (11.23 per game) and ninth in total defense (284.54 yards per game), it was defense that truly won games for Nebraska. Of course, when one mentions Nebraska Cornhusker defense, Senior DL Ndamukong Suh comes to mind first and foremost.

The Heisman trophy finalist had 82 tackles (19.5 for loss), 12 sacks, and an interception. He even blocked three kicks for the Cornhuskers.

Sophomore DL Jared Crick had 9.5 sacks, part of a squad that was third in NCAA FBS in sacks per game (3.23). Senior DB Matt O’Hanlon led the secondary with 64 tackles, two sacks, five interceptions (one for touchdown), and a forced fumble. Simply put, Nebraska is all defense, all the time.

The Matchup : Arizona is 6-7-1 in bowl games. This is their second straight year of being in bowl game, and they won their 2008 matchup against BYU in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Nebraska is 23-22 in bowl games. After a run of 35 straight bowl appearances was snapped, they are trying to get back to that tradition. This is their second straight game, after winning their 2008 Gator Bowl appearance over Clemson.

These two teams met in the 1998 Holiday Bowl, with Arizona squeaking out a 23-20 win.

This game will be a defensive showdown, and it starts with Nebraska. Even with Arizona’s number of weapons, all the offense’s eyes will be on Suh, who had 4.5 sacks in the Big 12 Championship. He will get his licks, but the Wildcats need to do whatever it takes to keep him out of the play.

If Arizona’s run defense can hold down Helu, the Wildcats will have neutralized Nebraska’s biggest weapon, giving them a greater chance at winning. This game will come down to defense and turnovers. Don’t tune it for a blowout.

The Prediction : Suh will be the dominant force, but Arizona’s defense will neutralize Nebraska, and they win a slow, defensive battle, 13-10.

UFC 75 Fight Night: They Think it's Drwal Over... It Is Now! by Martin McNeil Photography

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to pay-per-view on Saturday, August 26 with its UFC 62 event from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC has been on fire with its pay-per-view extravaganzas dating back to Super Bowl weekend earlier this year when Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture settled their grudge over the UFC Light Heavyweight Title at UFC 57. There, Liddell retained his championship with a second round knockout in what turned out to be Couture’s retirement fight. “The Iceman” returns to the octagon on August 26 with a tough title defense against Brazilian Renato “Babalu” Sobral. Also on the card, Forest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar, the two light heavyweight finalists who competed in the fight of the year in 2005 on the finals of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, will finally have their long anticipated rematch on pay-per-view.

From a business perspective, UFC 62 will have a difficult time living up to the success of the previous events this year. In addition to sellout crowds and multi-million gate receipts, the events have been drawing record buys on pay-per-view. UFC 57 on Super Bowl weekend, headlined by Liddell vs. Couture III, set a company record with 400,000 pay-per-view buys. Just three months later at UFC 60, the return of UFC pioneer and legend Royce Gracie to the octagon against Welterweight Champion Matt Hughes shattered the previous records with a whopping 600,000 buys. UFC 61 in early July is expected to challenge that figure when all of the numbers are reported. The highly anticipated Ken Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz showdown – four years after their initial battle – could ultimately set the all-time UFC pay-per-view record.

Nine fights are on tap for UFC 62 with all eyes on whether Babalu can pull the upset and dethrone the popular Light Heavyweight Champion.

UFC Light Heavyweight Title: Chuck Liddell (c) vs. Renato ‘Babalu’ Sobral
Liddell enters the fight victorious in this last six UFC fights, including two victories over Randy Couture and one against Tito Ortiz. Liddell’s knockout power is unrivaled and his kickboxing has improved as a standup weapon. Sobral comes into the fight undefeated since 2002. Ironically, the loss came against Liddell at UFC 40. Along the way, Sobral has used his takedown ability to dominate the fights on the ground and garner submission after submission. His last three wins in UFC have come via tapout. Neither man has fought since February 4. Liddell will enter the fight as a prohibitive favorite, but Babalu will be no push over. As an interesting side note, Liddell is tentatively scheduled to defend his title in November against Pride’s Wanderlei Silva in an interpromotional dream match should he get past Babalu. Looking ahead to the encounter with one of world’s best light heavyweight fighters could cost Liddell here.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar
These two fighters made household names for themselves on the finals of the first season of The Ultimate Fighter in April 2005. Their 15-minute standup war left fans wanting more. Griffin won the razor close decision, but UFC awarded Bonnar a six-figure UFC contract as well. Since that classic, Griffin has performed better in the octagon than his counterpart. Griffin choked out journeymen Bill Mahood and knocked out Elvis Sinosic before losing a controversial split decision as a heavy underdog to Tito Ortiz at UFC 59 in a fight that many felt, including the live crowd in Anaheim that night, Griffin won. Bonnar disposed of fellow reality show participant Sam Hoger and then submitted James Irvin in his first two fights. He won a questionable decision over Keith Jardine before losing a majority decision to Rashad Evans in an unimpressive performance. Griffin enters the fight as the favorite in what will hopefully be a repeat of their classic first encounter.

Welterweight Fight: Thiago Alves vs. Josh Neer
Both men are coming off losses and need a good showing here to continue their UFC careers. Alves, a standup fighter with solid striking ability, enters with a 2-2 record in the octagon, with TKO victories at UFC 56 over the previous undefeated Ansar Chalangov and UFC 59 against Derrick Noble. Neer also enters the fight with a 2-2 UFC record. His most impressive victory came via decision over The Ultimate Fighter 2 winner Joe Stevenson in April. He choked out Melvin Guillard back in January. Neer will likely enter as the favorite and should hold the advantage if the fight goes to the ground.

Lightweight Fight: Hermes Franca vs. Jamie Varner
The UFC is expected to bring back the Lightweight Title later this year and this fight could put the winner in the mix for a championship shot. Franca is a UFC veteran with a 3-2 mark. His latest victory came via submission over Joe Jordan at UFC 61 after over two years out of the octagon. Franca’s strengths are on the ground attempting submissions, but he has no problem standing and trading. Varner enters the fight as a replacement for Spencer Fisher, who suffered an injury in training. This will be his fight UFC fight, but he boasts a 9-0 MMA record. Varner specializes in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but might find life difficult under the bright lights for the first against a quality fighter riding a 5-fight winning streak.

Heavyweight Fight: Cheick Kongo vs. Christian Wellisch
It will be an international heavyweight showdown as Kongo, hailing from Paris, France, battles Wellisch, a native of Budapest, Hungary. Kongo debuted at UFC 61 in July with a first round victory over Gilbert Aldana. Wellisch holds a 7-1 MMA, but has yet to step into the octagon. He enters with a background in wrestling and jiu-jitsu. Kongo should enter the fight as the favorite, but a win for either man could begin a run toward Tim Sylvia and the UFC Heavyweight Title.

Four preliminary bouts have been announced for the show and, time permitting, may or may not air on the pay-per-view.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Wilson Gouveia vs. Wes Combs – Both men are coming off losses in June in their only UFC fights. Both possess heavy hands and like to stand and trade so expect a knockout.

Light Heavyweight Fight: David Heath vs. Cory Walmsley – Both boast undefeated MMA records, although neither has competed in UFC.

Middleweight Fight: Yushin Okami vs. Alan Blecher – Belcher replaces David Terrell, who has been sidelined from training with a sinus infection. Both are UFC rookies with Okami, a ground and pound specialist from Japan, holding an edge in experience.

Light Heavyweight Fight: Rob MacDonald vs. Eric Shafer – MacDonald has fought twice in UFC, submitting Kristian Rothaermel in June as his lone victory. Shafer is making his UFC debut.

Well Well Well.  It looks like we've stolen another one from the competition ladies and gentleman with one event left to declare the champion!  The Jones/Hamill DQ destroyed pretty much everyone's parlay play, I know it did mine.  Yodawrestler was able to snag the top spot with 53 pts, and rrlawler was able to snag the top spot in the betting portion of the game with $945.  Yes, it was that brutal!  Anyways, the top spot 10 spots are still up for grabs and a lot of ground can be made up at UFC 107 next weekend.  All of the TUF 10 Finale stats as well as seasonal stats can be found after the jump.  Let's bring it on home next week!

does he really have that bad of footwork? Sure he does all the things you say, BUT how often is he off balance and vulnerable because of it. Also, I’m not so sure if it’s that big a deal if his power is “undercut”. He mostly gets the KO and the Power shots when they count. Until it is exposed further I’m going with his footwork being unorthodox in the same way Fedor’s striking has been considered unorthodox.

Speed is definitely his best attribute.

Yep, another fighter has dropped out of UFC 108. This time it’s Tyson Griffin who has never had to withdraw from a fight before in his entire career. Go figure it would happen now.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that the UFC has lost another featured fighter in its first event of 2010.

Lightweight contender Tyson Griffin (14-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) has suffered an undisclosed injury in training and has been forced to withdraw from his “UFC 108: Evans vs. Silva” main-card bout with Jim Miller (15-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC).

The good news is the UFC already has a replacement to fight Miller. Sean Sherk.

With Tyson Griffin forced to withdraw from his UFC 108 bout due to inury, Sean Sherk (33-4-1 MMA, 7-4 UFC) has been selected as Jim Miller’s new opponent.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the switch with sources close to the event after MMAWeekly.com initially reported the move.

Sherk was scheduled to face Rafaello Oliveira on the UFC 108 preliminary card so they’ll still need to find someone to fight him, but the main card is once again intact, at least for now. Anyone want to start a pool on which day Rashad Evans or Thiago Silva pulls out?

In other UFC news, Mike Goldberg confirmed the GSP-Hardy fight for March 27 earlier this afternoon at the UFC 107 Fight Club Q&A. This event is believed to be UFC 111 and will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin were supposed to stage one of the biggest, literally and most likely figuratively, fights in the history of the UFC on November 21, 2009 in last Vegas at UFC 106.

But now, Lesnar has been forced to pull out of the fight due to what UFC President Dana White told Yahoo Sports was an illness that has left him feeling as sick as he ever has before.

Brock Lesnar Pulls Out Of UFC 106 vs. Shane Carwin, No Replacement Fight Named

It appears as if the Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin fight also scheduled for UFC 106 will be the new main event for the evening, and that's not a bad idea for White because both guys are very popular and capable of selling a lot of PPV buys. At the same time, however, both aren't exactly on the upswing of their careers.

As for the Lesnar-Carwin fight, it will likely be re-scheduled for UFC 108 in January according to the Yahoo article which should make for another PPV bonanza for White.

There has not yet been a replacement fight named for the UFC 106 card but there are some interesting undercard matchups that could be moved up including the fight between similarly polarizing, boastful welterweight Phil Baroni and former Ultimate Fighter winner Amir Sadollah.

If the UFC wants to add a fight, several other contenders are also available in the heavyweight division including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Junior Dos Santos, and maybe even Cain Velasquez, who beat Ben Rothwell without suffering much more than a few scratches.

It will be interesting to see if the UFC does add a replacement fight to take the place of Carwin vs. Lesnar but if not, UFC 106 still is an interesting card considering the other good fights for purists such as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs. Luis Cane and Dustin Hazelett vs. Karo Paryisan among others.

But of course, without Lesnar and Carwin, it won't be anywhere near the spectacle that fans were hoping for this time around. Still, as the old saying goes, good things come to those who wait.

Watch Sherlock Holmes Movie Online

In the film, as in the books, both Holmes and Watson know their way around a fight and their skills are frequently tested. Holmes is a skilled martial artist; this propensity links him with both the star and director of “Sherlock Holmes,” as Downey and Ritchie have practiced martial arts for years, and worked together to create Holmes’s distinct fighting style. “Doyle called it Baritsu in the novels, which is tied to a 19th-century hybrid of jujitsu that is actually called Bartitsu, created by Edward William Barton-Wright,” Downey explains. “Jujitsu is Guy’s chosen martial art. Mine is Wing Chun Kung Fu. So, we developed our own combination of martial arts styles for the movie.”

As efficient as he is at neutralizing an enemy in the course of his work, Holmes is also known to blow off steam in a boxing ring at a working class pub called the Punch Bowl. Here, in front a raucous crowd, Holmes takes on a massive boxer named McMurdo, played by David Garrick, in a brutal bare-knuckle fight which showcases the detective’s prowess and physical strength.

“The bare-knuckle boxing ring is the only place where Holmes doesn’t think,” says Downey. “But even there he does think; he thinks about how to win the fight, but doesn’t think about all of these ongoing concerns of life. Interpersonal relations don’t enter into it. It’s just you and your opponent.”

“The Punch Bowl is where Holmes goes to hone his skill, to make mistakes, and test out techniques against very powerful opponents,” comments fight consultant Eric Oram, who for years has trained with Downey in Wing Chun Kung Fu and helped prepare the actor for the fight sequences. “He starts by using the least amount of force in the first half of the fight. It’s only after his opponent crosses the line that he wants to teach him a lesson.”

More out of necessity than choice, Watson too knows his way around a street fight, though he is more of a brawler compared to the fluid combat style of Holmes. “Watson is used to the up-close-and-personal fight-for-your-life stuff,” Downey attests. “He has a much more accessible but no less effective style than Holmes. As a matter of fact, there are often times when Holmes over thinks in order to come up with the best deduction, where Watson will just strike with any tool that’s handy.”

“Watson is a war veteran and used to thinking on his feet,” says stunt coordinator Franklin Henson. “He can throw a wild punch in reaction, and, like a street fighter, he’ll use whatever it takes–his head, knees or elbows–to bring an opponent down.”

Law relished participating in the fight sequences. “When you’re in the hands of someone like Guy, who shoots with such a unique eye, you know you’re not shooting a standard fight scene,” says the actor. “He’s always looking for a new way to reveal the story behind the fight, and he knows exactly what he wants. So it’s good fun.”

Director of photography Philippe Rousselot utilized lighting and camera to make the textures palpable and the fights a truly physical experience. “Guy wants the film to feel to the viewer as if you’re there,” Rousselot states. “A good example is the Punch Bowl fight. It was crucial to bring in every detail, from a miniscule drop of sweat to the effect of each blow on the opponent’s body to the sea of movement and tussling in the crowd.”

Ritchie also used these sequences to deconstruct Holmes’s thinking over the course of a fight. He and Rousselot accomplished this moment-by-moment technique using a high-speed digital camera called the Phantom, which creates an ultra-slow motion effect. “The Phantom takes one second of filming and strings it out over 40 or 50 seconds,” says the director. “The camera takes in a great deal of information in a very short period of time, which is the perfect lens through which to illustrate how Holmes’s mind operates. He is able to condense an enormous amount of information into a fraction of a second.”

For a key action sequence–on a multi-story set representing the half-constructed Tower Bridge–Ritchie rehearsed extensively with the actors, along with Oram and Henson, as well as fight coordinator Richard R. Ryan. “We worked very closely with quite a big stunt team,” notes co-producer Steve Clark-Hall. “They knew Robert’s capabilities, which are considerable, and were able to play to his strengths. Pulling off this degree of high intensity action in these stunt sequences was quite a team effort.”

Ritchie sought a strategic blend of rehearsal and spontaneity to ensure the chaos of fighting was reflected in the sequences. “I made the creative decision to make the film gritty, so I didn’t want things to be too choreographed,” he says. “We discussed everything, but we also made sure to leave room for improvisation. I didn’t want it to look too perfect.”

This sensibility appealed to Rachel McAdams, who had extensive stunt work in the Tower Bridge sequence. “Guy liked to keep things messy and keep the truth within this fantastical world,” she notes. “There’s always the temptation to get too refined when dealing with this period, but Guy made sure it was also rough and tumble and modernized. Doing this movie with Guy taught me to be really quick on my feet and precise, yet always open and flexible.”

Of course, humor was an important ingredient in the action and found its way into all the action scenes. “There needed to be moments of levity and other moments of gravity,” Ritchie offers. “So the funny bits got funnier and the darker bits got darker as we went along.”

In creating a tangible feel of Sherlock Holmes’s London, Guy Ritchie wanted to portray a city at the crossroads between the past and a newly dawning future–an expansive and gritty place with bold new architecture being layered over the old. “As the center of the Industrial Revolution, London really was throbbing with enthusiasm and creative energy,” Ritchie observes. “Tower Bridge was being built, one of the many very ambitious things the Victorians were undertaking at the time.”

“The film is set when the British Empire is at its height,” adds Robert Downey Jr. “There was a sense of being on the cusp of the modern age, with a real interest in technological developments.”

The directive on all levels of design was to be at once authentic and grounded in the reality of the times while also creating a fresh look for Holmes’s world. “That was the key to this film,” says costume designer Jenny Beavan. “My instruction was to avoid the infamous deerstalker hat that has become emblematic of the old Holmes,” she continues, noting that the deerstalker hat did not come from Conan Doyle’s words but from an early illustration of one of the stories. “Our Holmes has a rumpled, scruffy look. You get the sense that he throws his clothes on the floor when he’s done with them and picks anything out of the pile when he gets dressed. For example, he wears a dinner jacket for the meal with Watson and his fiancee Mary but gets the shirt and cravat just slightly wrong. There’s a bit of a vintage store feel to his clothes.”

“In the books, as in the film, we know that Holmes can spend weeks at a time holed up in his rooms, lying on the sofa, doing nothing,” comments Wigram. “If so, chances are he’d look a bit of a mess. He’s something of a Bohemian, so we took a more unconventional, romantic view for his wardrobe. We imagined he’d dress more like an artist or a poet than a businessman or gentleman of the era–I was thinking along the lines of the Rolling Stones in their Victorian phase,” he smiles.

In stark contrast to Holmes, Watson’s wardrobe is neat and smart, pristine and highly groomed. As a former soldier who has recently returned from the war in Afghanistan, his dress code is defined by his military background. “Thick Harris tweeds give Watson a solidity, a man-of-the-Earth look,” says Beavan. “His three-piece suits are in browns and blues and he dons a square crown bowler, which is very proper and masculine and felt very Watson-like.”

Irene Adler’s costumes were particularly detailed, as well. For Irene, Beavan took authentic 19th-century costumes and gave them a twist. “The cutting and patterns are contemporary to the era, but I decided to use accents of strong colors–shocking pinks and blues–to lift them,” Beavan explains.

She also dressed Irene in some softer colors, such as the blue suit with black lace blouse in the Punch Bowl scenes, and a practical Donegal tweed suit for when she goes on the run. Fabrics for Irene’s dresses included duchess satin shaped into highly sculptural swirls and twists, and silk velvet. One of Beavan’s most inventive creations was Irene’s coat which splits to accommodate the bustle on the dress and features large sleeves to conceal weapons. She also has a number of hats, including two small bowlers.

To show Irene’s softer side, as well as her international style, Beavan created a beautiful silk kimono in shades of mauve and gold. “I was fortunate to find the perfect material in my own shop,” she recalls. “It was a silk damask with a slight floral weave. What made the material really striking was when we dyed it, the pattern separated, giving it a lot of dimension.”

The jewelry worn by Rachel McAdams’s character, Irene Adler, and Kelly Reilly’s Mary Morstan were not costume jewelry reproductions, but rare and priceless antique jewelry pieces provided by Martin Travis of Symbolic & Chase, located on Old Bond Street in London. Among the pieces chosen from their private collection were a 47-carat fancy yellow diamond, which, in the story, Irene purloined from a prince; a 19th-century spinel diamond pendant, also worn by Irene; and a 19th-century diamond necklace, worn by Mary, which Holmes correctly assesses she borrowed from her employer.

“The costumes were phenomenal,” McAdams declares. “It was great just to take in all the details, which give you answers to some of your own questions about your character. I could see what kind of jewelry Irene wore and the perfume she wears. And the clothes themselves were all so beautiful. The details and the time and painstaking energy people put into them were remarkable.”

Production designer Sarah Greenwood likewise parted from traditional depictions of Victorian England to reflect Ritchie’s vision. “This movie is funny, it’s visceral, it’s fast-paced and it’s energetic,” she says. “Our mandate from the beginning was to always keep those elements in mind in our design process.”

Greenwood worked with her team to create sets that looked and felt completely authentic. “Holmes is eccentric enough without being surrounded by fantastical sets,” she says. “That said, we could stretch the design a little. Really, it’s about encapsulating the period and using the environment to help tell the story.”

The overriding challenge for the production designer and her team was the tremendous scope of the film. “We go from the gutter to the grandeur of the Houses of Parliament, to the shipyard in Chatham Docks to the creepiness of the crypts, to the intimacy of Holmes’s rooms,” Greenwood describes.

This tremendous scope was achieved using a combination of authentic locations, specially adapted sets in the UK, and CGI. Later, production would move to New York City for soundstage work on some of the film’s more elaborate interior sets.

“Guy is used to getting out and shooting on location and has become very efficient at it,” says Clark-Hall. “You get a lot from being out on the streets. It’s tougher in a lot of respects, the control on the locations and all that. But you’re able to achieve so much in terms of sheer scale on location, especially in a big city like London with so much built-in history.”

The filmmakers used locations in London, Liverpool and Manchester to recreate what London would have looked like at the end of the 19th century. “It was quite a big challenge because Sarah was looking for big-scale areas around the Thames, the old city and Parliament. It turned out to be very tough because there are so many modern developments,” Clark-Hall recalls. “So, we shot in Liverpool and Manchester, as well as London, and were able to patch together all these details to create our Victorian London.”

“The locations on this film are a bit amazing,” Law states. “I was born and raised here and we went to places I’ve never been or even seen–really beautiful Victorian and Edwardian cobbled corners of London, Manchester and Liverpool. I learned so much about my home country over the course of this shoot.”

In the film, Holmes and Watson traverse through every echelon of London culture–from the gritty and industrial to the formal and opulent. The film commences within the depths of the 12th-century church of St. Bartholomew the Great, where Holmes and Watson close in on Blackwood to stop him from a brutal ritual sacrifice of a young woman. Other distinguished British structures used by the production included St. Paul’s Cathedral; the Reform Club, one of the city’s oldest and most famous private clubs (Conan Doyle was even a member); the Old Naval College in Greenwich; Somerset House overlooking the Thames; and Brompton Cemetery in Kensington, where a sole witness to Blackwood’s resurrection makes his startling claim.

One of the most ambitious set pieces–a chase through an operating 19th-century slaughterhouse–took place within a disused warehouse in London’s East End, where Greenwood and her team constructed a believable and brutal maze of moving machinery. The set was replete with blades, saws, and huge hooks hung from chain belts throughout the structure.

In the course of their investigation, Holmes and Watson find themselves in a makeshift laboratory where Blackwood’s operative, Luke Reordan, played by Oran Gurel, conducts ingenious but mystifying experiments. A building in London’s Spitalfields was transformed into a physical representation of Reordan’s tortured mind, with scrawled notes and biblical Latin and Hebrew notations pinned to the wall, crucifixes and pagan charms hanging from the ceiling, and dissected frogs and rats littering the surfaces.

“There’s a method to the chaos of Reordan’s lab, but it takes someone like Holmes to figure it out,” says Greenwood. “I didn’t want the lab to look too fantastical, like something from Jules Verne. It was about making sure everything looked real.”

An epic fight and chase that begins in Reordan’s lab spills over to a working dock, where a massive ship is in the midst of construction. In the course of this face-off, Holmes and Watson confront Blackwood’s giant-sized cohort Dredger, played by actor and professional wrestler Robert Maillet.

This major set was constructed at Chatham Historical Docks, outside London. The construction crew built the left half of the full-scale ship that, once assembled, spanned 230-feet-long by 15-feet-high, with a 15-foot section in the middle at full height of 30 feet. The ship would then be extended in height using computer-generated images in post production.

The ship pre-build took five weeks, then another five weeks at the Chatham location to put the jigsaw together. Greenwood’s team worked closely with the special effects department, who were creating collapsing walkways, juddering platforms and breakaway wooden tree trunks onsite for use during the sequence.

Once production wrapped in the UK, the team crossed the Atlantic to shoot on soundstages at the Marcy Avenue Armory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Inside the cavernous space, three key sets were built: the attic of the Punch Bowl, the interior of Sherlock Holmes’s living quarters at 221B Baker Street, and a portion of London’s famed Tower Bridge as it appeared while under construction in 1890.

The attic room above the Punch Bowl, where Holmes participates in bare-knuckle boxing matches, is a small and dingy space where Holmes meditates as he works to decipher the mystery surrounding Lord Blackwood. Greenwood explored with the director the kinds of imagery that would emanate from Holmes’s study of Blackwood’s spiritualism. “We’ve had a lot of symbolism, and a lot of imagery to do with the Temple of Four Orders, which is the secret sect that Blackwood uses in his plot,” she explains.

The team created one of the most important sets in the interior of Holmes’s rooms at 221B Baker Street, within a flat he shares with Watson and their landlady, Mrs. Hudson, played by Geraldine James. “It’s Mrs. Hudson’s room, decorated maybe twenty, thirty years ago, so it’s become slightly tatty since Holmes moved in,” Greenwood describes. “It’s not a conventional Victorian parlor at all; it’s the antithesis of that. Holmes has come in and has completely messed it up.”

Period furniture, drapery and a multitude of items found in flea markets, antique stores and rental houses were shipped from England to New York to decorate the inside of the Baker Street residence. “We brought all of the props here from England because British Victorian is very different from American Victorian,” set decorator Katie Spencer says. “It has a certain style and is very hard to get.”

In its clutter and chaos the apartment reveals both Conan Doyle’s depiction of Holmes’s disorganized personal habits and the detective’s brilliant, complex mind. “Everything is supposed to represent his journeys, his travels, his inquisitive nature into the human condition and the human anatomy, chemistry, and photography…frankly, anything that’s worthy of Holmes’s interest,” explains Ritchie.

Dog-eared books, newspapers, paintings from the Near East, unpaid bills, maps of Britain, anatomical drawings, Oriental carpets and a tiger skin rug, and half-eaten food from forgotten meals, not to mention Watson’s rather tolerant dog, Gladstone, can all be found in Holmes’s living quarters. In keeping with his profession, there are also wigs, mustaches and false noses for disguises, and a padded post for Holmes’s martial arts practice.

“It’s just minutia, but to him it’s really engaging,” Downey explains. “It’s those touches that really help you feel comfortable on this set. The reality of his job is that it entails long amounts of time spent in isolation, but when he’s not stimulated, it’s a fate worse than death. So, hopefully Baker Street embodies everything it takes for him not to be bored to death.”

“It was great to have an actor like Robert who cares about his environment, who will use the props in a way we didn’t imagine,” says Katie Spencer. “Something Robert very much wanted was that everything was here for a reason, as opposed to just being decoration.”

Greenwood, Spencer and the design team also placed numerous “Easter eggs” on the set, which Sherlock Holmes aficionados will recognize from the stories of Conan Doyle, including lemon juice that Holmes uses for secret writing, a glass-covered diorama of bee hives, and an area for Holmes’s phrenology studies, another popular area of interest among the educated classes during this period. “There are so many Doyle-isms in this film,” says Robert Downey Jr. “We’ve infused the film quite a lot with them, not just in the set design, but also in the script.”

Watson’s office, also housed in Baker Street and constructed on the stage, was far more ordered than Holmes’s, with the doctor’s diplomas lining the wall, along with patrician paintings, candlesticks in the shape of swords, and medical accoutrements all neatly displayed.

The sets built on the stage were not all interiors. By far the largest set was the setting for the climactic fight sequence in the film: Tower Bridge. Now an iconic symbol of London, Tower Bridge took its name and the design of its twin 200-foot towers from the Tower of London, which is situated at the northern end of the eight-hundred foot-long bridge. In 1890, Tower Bridge was only half-built, its steel frame and walkways still open to the elements, creating a visually fascinating and unpredictable setting for the film’s final clash.

The Tower Bridge set was built against a green screen background, which the visual effects team would later fill in with huge vistas of 1890 London and the River Thames. “With modern-day technology, we were able to really recreate London as a character,” says Wigram. “It will feel like a real place. We had an incredible team, and we hopefully built a period London that we’ve never seen before on film.”

“Guy knows London very well and that means he isn’t too reverential about it,” Mark Strong asserts. “Even though the film has a very specific time and place, Guy brought his own vision of the city, which gives it an incredible energy. I think it’s a stroke of genius bringing together Sherlock Holmes and Guy Ritchie. Guy brought something so new and dynamic to the mix.”

The final design element was the music of Hans Zimmer to accompany and enhance the drama, playfulness, action and intrigue. “It was such a joy to work with Guy to capture the different tones of the worlds Holmes and Watson navigate, ranging from the halls of Parliament to a bare-knuckle boxing ring to the shadowy crypts beneath a cathedral,” comments Zimmer, who was working with Ritchie for the first time. “This story has so many textures and personalities, that it really gave us the opportunity to create a diverse language of music for the film.”

Ritchie offers, “Hans and I are very much on the same page about taking a fresh approach to the music. The music has taken on its own identity and become a significant part of the creative process in giving ‘Sherlock Holmes’ a contemporary feel.”

Silver concludes, “We set out to make a movie that would resonate with fans of Holmes and bring the Holmes style of adventure to a whole new generation. And I think everyone delivered magnificently. It’s a fantastic, wild ride.”

If you’ve watched the trailers, seen the posters or read the rapidly multiplying coverage, you’ll already know that Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes are very different men indeed. There’s definitely some core factors that tie them together, of course, such as their almost supernatural powers of observation and, to varying degrees, skill in a fist fight.

The conception of this new Holmes started before Robert Downey Jr’s casting, even before Ritchie’s involvement. Indeed, they were picked to fit. After the break, see some of the concept art that producer-writer Lionel Wigram had comic strip illustrator John Watkiss draw up in order to convince the studio of his approach.

Bleeding Cool have pointed out the common misconception that this new Sherlock Holmes was based upon a comic book, and traced the source of that botch up to the existence of this concept art combining with bad journalism.

Technology has never looked so human in film.

After all the online buzz (some good, others bad), after all the focus on box office receipts (as ever, Deadline's Nikke Finke has the most comprehensive run-down), after all the attention on whether Hollywood's reigning techno-geek could create a worthy successor to his Oscar-winning, record-shattering “Titanic,” “Avatar” snowballed through the pre-winter snowstorm of 2009. James Cameron didn't just make a sci-fi epic. He's created a wholly believable, realistic world, at once marking a new cinematic era and expanding the possibilities of film in our technology-dependent, digital entertainment-driven 21st century. From here on out, movies will be divided into two epochs: B.A. and A.A. Before “Avatar,” After “Avatar.”

Asked where “Avatar” stands in the history of technology and movies, Roger Ebert, a film historian and arguably the country's pre-eminent movie critic, wrote me in an e-mail: “It inaugurates the next generation and raises the bar. A milestone in the same sense as 'Star Wars.'”

For decades, Ebert has been a skeptic of 3-D technology; while blogging about the animated movie “Up,” which premiered in 3-D at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, he wrote that 3-D is a “marketing gimmick” aimed “to justify higher ticket prices.” But last week, Ebert led the throng of critics who raved about “Avatar,” the largest 3-D release in movie history. Cameron's baby, more than 10 years in the making, is “not simply a sensational entertainment, although it is that, ” Ebert wrote. “It is an Event, one of those films you feel you must see to keep up with the conversation.”

Because people are talking about it, especially in the virtual water cooler that is the social Web. The hashtag #Avatar has been a trending topic on Twitter for days; early Friday morning, on the day of the film's release, @walkercd tweeted: “If the snowstorm takes me this weekend it'll be because I left the house to see AVATAR.” In a decade that's been marked by countless innovations in special effects — from “The Matrix” series to “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy — there's a sense that, too often, technology is showcased for technology's sake. You can almost hear the director shout from behind the camera, “See, look at what I can do!” The story takes a backseat to the technology. That's not “Avatar.” Cameron's use of 3-D is the “best I've seen — and more importantly, one of the most carefully-employed,” Ebert wrote. “The film never uses 3-D simply because it has it.”

It's not just critics who've run out of superlatives to describe the experience. Michael Arrington, founder of the industry insider blog TechCrunch, declared “Avatar” as the “the iPhone of movies” — a real game-changer. Like Arrington, I lined up on Thursday night at the first midnight showing of “Avatar.” I was in the San Francisco Bay Area, home to Silicon Valley, attending a conference at the University of California-Berkeley. It was a packed theater — and, surprisingly, a mixed crowd. There were as many young women as they were young men, many of them sporting their Cal gear. A few minutes into the more than two-and-a-half hour film, when we first see Jake, the former Marine who's a paraplegic, take his first steps on Pandora as his nearly ten feet tall, blue-skinned avatar with a tail, a bespectacled student in front of me yelled: “Oh man, this is much better when you're drunk.”

I wasn't drunk. But I did notice, as I looked down my notebook and jotted down some notes, that my jaw had dropped. Literally. It was breathtaking, the sheer beauty of the images on screen — alive, vivid, seemingly touchable. There's a “thereness” to the action, fleeting and fantastical but somehow also grounded and natural. As others have noted, the story is not new — it's part “Pocahontas,” part “Dances With Wolves” and all the more relevant given the recent climate summit in Copenhagen. At one point in the film, Neytiri, the princess of the Na'vi tribe, tells Jake, her inevitable love interest, as they walk the lush, layered land of Pandora: “All energy is all borrowed. One day you have to give it back.” But the new technologies that are used in service of the story — shot with cutting-edge “Simulcam” camera, with live action seamlessly mixed with CGI imagery, among others — has revolutionized film-making as a technical art form. And one with a heart. After all, what has distinguished Cameron's movies, from “The Terminator” to “Aliens,” are the human stories behind the technology. Take the pulse rifle-carrying, gender stereotype-breaking Ellen Ripley.

“Too much is being said about the technology of this film. Quite frankly, I don't give a rat's ass how a film is made,” Cameron told The New Yorker's Dana Goodyear, who wrote a 10,400-word profile of the 55-year-old, Canadian-born director. “It's an emotional story. It's a love story. They're not expecting that. The sci-fi/fantasy fans see the trailer and they think, Cool — battles, robots. What you really need to get to is, Oh, it's that, too.”

Let's leave aside the money haul; judging by the strong word of mouth online, “Avatar” should break the $1 billion mark. Let's forget the awards and accolades; this won't be the last time you'll read the words “Oscar” and “James Cameron” between now and March 10. (And if Cameron and “Avatar” are not top contenders for “Best Picture” and “Best Director,” respectively, then the Oscars deserve the consistently low ratings it gets.) What Cameron has achieved, quite simply, will outlast any award and box office report.

James Cameron, Hollywood's reigning techno-geek, has humanized technology.

***Here's the latest extended HD trailer***

I’m so torn on this film; the sci-fi, fantasy, action geek inside of me is screaming “GET TICKETS NOW AND WATCH IT AT MIDNIGHT!”; while the skeptic in me is saying “This just doesn’t look to be all it’s cracked up to be.” Up until the last trailer for Avatar, I still wasn’t sold on it being the sliced bread of movies.  This one featurette really sold me over, however, and I was looking forward to Avatar again.

Now we have this exclusive clip from MTV Movies Blog that shows Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) in his avatar form, riding a giant peacock lizard thing with Ney’tiri (Zoe Saldana). As they soar above the clouds of Pandora, enjoying life, they are suddenly attacked by a bigger more ferocious giant peacock lizard thing and have to outrun it in the forest. Enjoy the clip below:

Here is where I become torn again. Avatar will most likely look absolutely crap-my-pants fantastic on an IMAX screen in 3D, but on my laptop screen with my Bose headphones, it just doesn’t ruffle my skirt. I feel like I’m watching a big CGI cartoon episode on Nickelodeon.  I’ll get some Avatar lovers throwing some hate at me for that last comment, but that’s how I feel. Avatar is being sold as a true “theater experience” type of film, but all of these low-resolution video clips are not helping push that agenda. If anything, they are hurting the film by pushing viewers off the fence and away from seeing it.

One thing I’m curious about, that sort of correlates to a theater experience film like Avatar: how will this hurt its “re-watchability” factor? The way a movie stays alive after its theater run is via Blu-ray, DVD, VHS, Digital Copies and so forth. If I watch a movie that I really enjoy and want to watch it again outside of the theater, then Blu-ray and DVD are my only options. If the only way to truly enjoy Avatar is to watch it on a 30-foot screen with a 10,000 watt sound system, then why would I want to purchase a home version?

Will this keep me from plunking down my money and watching and even enjoying Avatar in theaters? No probably not; I’ll be there tomorrow with my popcorn in hand ready to be blown away.

What are your thoughts on the latest clip and how do you think Avatar will translate from the big screen to the small screen?

Avatar finally comes to theaters tomorrow December 18th, 2009.

Every once in a while Neopets introduces yet another way to suck the NP (neopoints) out of Neopians pockets. If it isn't doing Employment Agency Jobs or Faerie Quests, it's trying to complete Jhudora and Illusen's ventures. Now they introduce “The Kadoatery”, a little place where sad Kadoaties are just waiting for someone to feed them – but this task doesn't come easy nor, in most cases, is it inexpensive. I've been trying to get one of these for a while now and have basically given up on it; while it would be nice to get a trophy or even the avatar this simple fact of the matter is this – some people have fed over 50 cats and haven't gotten the avatar. I'm not sinking my NP into something until I know when you get the avatar and if it is some ridiculous number then hey, I can live with out it.

There is no set time as to when new Kadoaties are added to the pound so you will have to sit there and refresh the page over and over to try and get one that hasn't been fed. That is just half the battle; the other half is having the food it wants on hand and in your inventory. Unless it is an unbuyable item you don't stand a chance of going in to your SDB (safety deposit box) to get it then feed it to the pet. This is where the people who have been at the page a while have a real advantage. Even if they miss out on one of the restock, they are seeing what is being asked for … unfair to those with a slow speed connection as well as those who don't have millions of NP at their disposal.

You can get to The Kadoatery by cutting and pasting this link:
www.neopets.com/games/kadoatery/index.phtml

For the latest gossip and avatar conspiracy theories, visit the Avatars & NeoSignatures NeoBoard here:

The Big Problem

The biggest complaint that people are having in regards to the quest for the avatar is this – people with high speed connections have a better chance of getting the cats – essentially feeding two or three of them each time it restocking with hungry little Kadoaties. This is extremely unfair for those who have a dial up connection and really puzzles me – if Neopets is going to put a five second hold on you when you are restocking from the shops and limit the number of quests you can do as well as Employment Agency Jobs – why not put a five cat limit per person per day?

Now, if that weren't bad enough you also have this mysterious avatar to wonder about. When do you get it? Is it a random event? Do you have to feed a certain colored cat? This is a lot like the Monotony avatar that came out – people had no idea how to get it so all kinds of theories started flying around. It wasn't until a week or so later that people actually started getting it from the Wheel of Monotony – so I can see this following the same pat. Neopets sitting on it for a while to keep people guessing then releasing it after you feed a certain amount. This in itself is the funniest part because people who have wasted millions of NP on this little event will be extremely sore about it – just think of how mad you would be if you wasted millions of points to get an avatar and when some newbie gets it as a random event or after feeding one something that cost a few hundred NP.

Some Common Items

I've been sitting back and watching the restocks – even with my “fast as lightening” connection I still can't get to them quick enough to snag them before others do. So, I started to cut and paste the items that were being requested. This way I can have them in my inventory and won't have to search for them in my Safety Deposit Box or on The Shop Wizard. This is a list that I will add to when I see common ones come up – it might help, it might not but it sure has to be better than sitting there getting frustrated.

Blurf (unbuyable)

Intestines and Marinara (1,000 – 1,300)
Kiwi Cookies (2,000 – 2,300)
Pumpkin Ice Cream
Glass Negg

== Please note == These prices could change in a matter of minutes depending on the demand of a specific type of food. If on every refresh it is asking for a certain type of food people are going to stock up on it and either use it to feed a cat or jack the prices up sky high to make a profit.

So What Can Neopets Do?

1. Limit the number of pets a person can feed a day. This will give everyone a chance to get a trophy or at least a shot at the avatar. Other events at the site are limited so why not this?

2. Don't disclose what the pet wants – make it a real challenge. If you have twenty cats on the page and you click on one you will have no idea what it wants to eat but you will be given a certain amount of time to get it. Of course this means that there is a chance you will get something that you can't afford but hey, at least it stops people from hording items that are being requested then jacking up the prices on them.

3. Have the item list expanded to include things other than food. This is done in the Employment Agency and helps to balance out things that are oversaturated at the site. Sort of like it's own checks and balance system.

Watch A Single Man Online

We all know that guys are jerks! All of them! So what is it about the ones that seem to capture our hearts for what we think is forever? Then a few months later things start to sour and you wonder “Wow this always happens to me…what am I doing wrong?” Well the fact is that around the time we feel like we can settle down with a man he isn't ready. We are easy to jump in to things and don't take into consideration the apparent and serious flaws that prevent the “happily ever after” ending. So you may be wondering what some of those signs are. After having many relationships fail I sat back and examined what I was doing wrong. I have five requirements that your man must have before you decide to settle down with him.

Requirement number 1: Knows How to Use His Money

So many times men don't know how to use their money responsible. Instead of saving a needed $500 they will fly on a whim to Vegas and come back $1500 in the hole. This is a very bad sign. Settling down can be great…and very expensive. If his logic with finances is different than yours this can be a sign of problems down the road. Just about every couple argues about money and you want to be on the same page with things to cut down the frequency of financial fighting.

Requirement number 2: He is a “Glass half full” Kind of Guy

A lot of guys who are younger and not ready to settle down are extremely negative and have a nasty outlook on life. It is easier to go through the tough stuff with your partner if he can help you see the sunny side of things. As I'm sure you know negativity always causes problems.

Requirement number 3: He Initiates Discussions about the Future

One of the biggest problems couples have when they settle too soon is that they are not on the same page about what they want in life. A perfect example would be children. People's opinions on the matter are so different yet this is one of the most important discussions a couple can have. A very good sign of his commitment to you is if he initiates the talk about future options. These include children, living situations, jobs/careers, and general opinions. If a couple marry and the wife wants to start having babies right away and she finds that her husband wants nothing to do with kids that is a potentially relationship ending issue. If he talks to you openly it shows he genuinely cares about your future together.

Requirement number 4: He Thinks about You

The modern day woman knows what she wants with her career as well as her future. If your serious boyfriend gets a fabulous job offer that any single man would take and base his decision around you is a definite indicator that he wants a future with you. It is also a sign that he will take your wants and needs into consideration during your marriage which is key.

Requirement number 5: He has a Mature Lifestyle Even When You're Not Around

I always see guys out at bars with wedding rings on but no wife in sight. This amazes me. When you go to visit your mom or take a business trip for a few days is your boyfriend hitting up the strip club or going bar hopping with his buddies? There is some truth to the belief that life slows and gets a bit boring when married. It is not necessarily boring but it does need to calm down. These things are ok for couples to do together if they are in to that but not just a guy by himself. If your man is still doing this stuff but saying he wants to settle down you must wonder if that is what he really wants. If a guy is still a party animal he probable isn't ready.

All in all there are many indicators that a guy isn't ready but obtaining any of these should send up a huge red flag in your mind when it comes to picking a mate. Good luck and happy hunting!

The Lovely Bones Full Movie Download

Most people do not read for the knowledge, but rather to ponder an unexplored world. Reading is a way to experience reality in situations that most would never be a part of. It is a way to change how a person thinks and perceives certain subjects and “transport” him/her to a distant land. Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold, explores the feelings behind a victim of rape and murder, leaving the reader to undergo the unthinkable events associated with it.

Lovely Bones is a novel that allows the reader to reevaluate what was previously only imagined by most. Unfortunately, in the society today, it is very common to hear on the news about rape and murder. Though most have a knowledge of the basics behind these crimes, little know, but the victim themselves, how it actually feels to be affected with these crimes. Readers of this story are glued to the pages because up until this story, he/she could only imagine how the painful last minutes of one's live would be like. The reader will now find out the reaction of the victim and if forgiveness is even in question. This novel allows the reader to go inside the mind of a young girl, who falls victim to a neighborhood sex offender.

The situation in Lovely Bones can easily be connected to one's everyday life. Anyone can be a victim of a rape or murder. This story teaches you to pay close attention to your surroundings. Just because someone may seem like a nice, polite, neighbor does not necessarily mean that they are. A clear example is how priests have become part of their own scandal for raping young children. Anyone can be a predator. This story traps the reader into this town of crisis, where an innocent girl is raped and killed, because this girl could have been anyone including oneself or a friend. This story hits close to home because there are so many cases of these crimes with people struggling to deal with the same after effects.

Lovely Bones “transports” the reader to distant lands. After reading this novel, one's thinking and perceiving changes dramatically. One may think that it is a shame for the victim of these crimes, but not until they read this whole book do they encounter a real chill. This story answers many unanswered questions, which causes the reader to get lost within the novel. Never did one think about how the dead victim would feel once they are on their way to heaven. In this story, the victim prays that her bones will be found so that she could finally rest in peace. This story allows the reader to grasp the feelings of the victim's parents and how this one event has broken up the family forever. The once happy family of the victim is gone. Even after justice is served, nothing will ever be the same. Most times, one would think that it is great for the family to find the killer, but it really does not make much of a difference. The killer will serve time, but this will not bring the victim back to life or fix the family bond that will be split forever. This novel allows the reader to comprehend the true feelings after a rape and murder are committed on a victim.

Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold, displaces the reader to a distant land within the mind of a victim of a rape and murder. This story leaves the reader to experience an unexplored world, one that could only be imagined. After reading about this unthinkable reality in everyday life, ones views change dramatically. Lovely Bones hits close to home because anyone could fall victim to a story like this.

Watch Avatar Free

If Avatar were the most expensive movie of all-time, there might be some responsibility to score the biggest opening-weekend of all time. But, at $240 million, Avatar was not the most expensive movie ever. 2012 ($260 million), Spider-Man 3 ($275 million) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End ($300 million) all cost more. Heck, thanks to 2012 (remember when Roland Emmerich was known for cheap effects that looked expensive?), it was not even the most expensive non-sequel. But expectations are a dangerous thing, so how much Avatar pulled in this weekend will not matter as much as perception of said numbers. If the press jumps on the 'mere' $73 million opening sprint the way they crucified King Kong's $50 million 3-day and $66 million five-day opening, then the film may forever be considered a disappointment no matter how much it grosses in the end. On the other hand, if the number is looked at in a realistic fashion, then we can all acknowledge that this was a pretty darn-impressive opening weekend for a film with major long-term potential. Let's begin…

The much anticipated and debated (amongst film nerds at least) Avatar debuted this weekend with $73 million. That's the second-biggest December opening in history, behind the $77 million debut of Will Smith's I Am Legend. In Avatar's defense, I Am Legend was an hour shorter, had a great tag-line that doubled as an easy-to-understand plot synopsis (“The last man on earth is not alone.”), and had the added buzz of the debuting trailers for The Dark Knight. While Warner Bros. held its non-IMAX Dark Knight trailer off the internet until Sunday night, Paramount did Fox no similar favors, releasing its Iron Man 2 teaser online two days before Avatar's opening day. It's also worth noting that Avatar actually opened on fewer screens than many of the top December openings. On the other hand, Avatar debuted in countless 3D and mini-IMAX screens, which increased the general ticket prices to more than overcome the running-time and screen-count disadvantage. But Avatar did break one very notable record. It is the biggest debut in history for a completely unaffiliated original movie. By that, I mean it was not a sequel, not a franchise adaptation, not a literary adaptation, and not a star-vehicle. It's also racked up $159 million overseas, for a global total of $232 million.

So far, general word of mouth is strong, with those who didn't go in with months of anticipation and expectations pretty much being blown away by the 3D visuals, photo-real special effects work, and large-scale action spectacle (my parents saw it on opening day and loved it). But long-term predictions would be pure guesswork at this point. If we argue that the Saturday and Sunday snowstorms prevented otherwise interested moviegoers from checking out the picture, then we can either expect stronger than normal weekday sales or inflated second-weekend grosses. We'll know more after its second weekend, when it will attempt to use positive buzz to overcome the sure-fire smash weekend debut of Sherlock Holmes. So I'll just toss out the following math: If Avatar performs like the alleged flop King Kong (4.36x its opening weekend), it can expect to gross $318 million. If it performs like Titanic (it won't but let's do the math anyway), it'll do 20.9x times its opening weekend figure for $1.53 billion in the US. Obviously that isn't going to happen, but I will say that January 2010 seems on paper a lot quieter than January 2009. So it won't likely run into the problem that last year's holiday releases did (Marley and Me, Bedtime Stories, Yes Man, and Seven Pounds), where the usual leggy holiday and post-holiday season got kneecapped by uncommonly popular January releases (Gran Torino, Taken, Paul Blart Mall Cop).

If it needs to be said, Avatar was never, ever going to reach the upper-realms of the opening weekend chart. There has never been a December opening that even topped $80 million, let alone $100 million and beyond. Before this weekend, no completely original and star-less movie had opened north of $68 million (The Day After Tomorrow). Furthermore Avatar had to deal with a brutally negative entertainment press that basically made stuff up to make the movie look doomed ('it cost $500 million!' 'the 3D made our previous audiences sick!'). It was a 2.75 hour movie with no stars and a difficult to explain premise, plus 3D visuals that frankly looked so much better in theaters that the teaser, trailer, and photos were a little underwhelming to the uninformed. Topping off its sea of troubles that would have felt more at home in A Serious Man, we had those brutal snowstorms over the weekend. On the other hand, the 'wow, it's great' surprise factor worked wonders for Jurassic Park, as people like myself had absolutely no idea how good it was going to be until those Thursday advance-night showings on June 10th, 1993. Surprise artistic success is always better for long-term box office than expected brilliance. One thing we learned this weekend, never ever bet against James Cameron.

Before I dash, a bit of non-Avatar news (not much of it out there). Did You Hear About the Morgans? opened with just $7 million, so it'll get hammered by It's Complicated next weekend. The Blind Side, at $164 million, is now Sandra Bullock's highest-grossing movie and the biggest sports movie of all time. Plus, it's the second-highest-grossing 'based on a true story' movie in history, behind the relative non-fiction of The Passion of the Christ. The Princess and the Frog dropped 49%, bringing its ten-day total to a somewhat disappointing $44 million. It will need all the holiday cheer that it can muster to cross the $100 million mark. A Christmas Carol dropped 50%, as a result of losing its IMAX and 3D screens to you-know-what. Its total stands at $130 million, and Disney is hoping to use the Christmas season to get this one past $150 million. Invictus dropped 51% and now stands at $15 million. Any hopes of grossing more than $35 million will depend on Oscar traction in the next month.

The Nick Avatar Air Temple (3828) from the famous LEGO Group is yet another interesting toy for kids. This company has truly achieved the goals of the founder. The word, 'LEGO' is actually derived from two Danish words “leg godt”. This translates in to “play well”. The reputation of the Lego group is such that, today it is the sixth largest toy manufacturer across the globe. There is no doubt that this creative product from the Lego is a master blaster. The Nick Avatar Air Temple basically consists of 403 unique pieces. The main attraction is the 4 diminutive characters from the famed Avatar Air Bender show.

The core concept of the game is to secure the Air Temple from the Fire Nation. The combatants of the Fire Nation are on a spree to destroy the Air Temple. The main characters of this game are Sokka, Aang, Firebender and Fire Nation soldier. These Avatars are endowed with incredible bending powers. The temple is safeguarded by a secret trap door. All the entrances to the temple are locked. This play set is equipped with special fire tanks that discharge small red disks. The game revolves around how the player protects the sacred temple by using Momo and the fling mechanism. The Momo, the flying lemur is a favorite character of the children. The glider Aang is another popular Avatar.

This is an ideal play set for children in 7 to 12 age group. The Lego Nick Avatar Air Temple (3828) comes with an instruction manual that attractively illustrates the rules of the game. The instruction manual is so simple and lucid that the kids can understand themselves without any parental guidance. The whole set is vibrantly colored to make it more appealing. This explains how to build the model in just 42 steps without any confusion. The assembling of the kit needs some elders help. The completed model of the Air Temple has a trap door and a seesaw. This seesaw works like a catapult and throws the attackers to protect the temple. The main entrance looks so real that it can be mist6aken for an original wooden gate. The gates have a unique locking facility for added protection. It is very difficult to break this.

The Fire Nation soldiers who attack the Air Temple come fully prepared. They possess a canon that is capable of throwing the disks to at least five feet. This can not be considered as a mere kids play stuff. It is a great family fun pass time. It would have been better if the Lego has provided a better kit to store the pieces.
